If violence bugs you, let's talk peace in Reibers

peacecamp 2009: let's talk peace in Reibers
An encounter of youth from four different cultures

Hungarian, Austrian, Jewish Israeli and Palestinian teenagers from Israel will meet in Reibers, Lower Austria from July 3rd to 13th to discuss matters of war and peace in the context of their own world and society.

On the peacecamp, they will cope with the question what the word "peace" really means to them, they will try to define the obstacles to peace in the context of their world, they will try to define what a "stranger" is and how not to be afraid of strangers; they will look out for compromise between the necessary acceptance of, and adaptation to "reality" and the striving for change, development and new forms of living, which characterizes adolescence.

In preparation of the peacecamp, they will prepare a "family album", four culture evenings and a chapter of contemporary history and discuss these issues during their reunion in Austria. Creative and outdoor workshops, psychoanalytic large groups, history sessions, culture evenings, an open day and a final show they will put on stage in Vienna on the last day will offer varied opportunities to come in touch with feelings and attitudes toward their own, and each other's culture, religion and history.

Since 2004 6 peacecamps have taken place, 5 of which in Austria and one in Israel.

This year's final show will take place in the "Dschungel"/MuseumsQuartier on July 12th

Green Seniors were invited to welcome the young people from peacecamp and their initiators.

Dear Young friends from let’ talk peace in Reibers

It is a very great honour for me, to participate at your Show for peace this evening.

I will bring you best greetings from Green Seniors of Austria and from the European Network Green Seniors.

Time of adolescence is different in different decades, but also the definition of peace.

As youngster in the Fifties and Sixties we had no much understanding of peace and peaceprocesses. We were not far from the big second war and Holocaust and nobody like to talk about this time. Save your own privat life was motto of time and don’t engage yourself in politics.

But time has changed. You are Young people wich other experiences and unlock for social and political processes. You are courageous, engaged and hopefoul for peace.

So I think, we, the older Generation can learn from you, how we can create peaceprocess, how we can help you to change the world into a better place for all.

Please take our good wishes and don’t stop your very important work. We will support you wherever we can.

Birgit Meinhard-Schiebel
